The Spectacular Season that is Summer ’15

The latest round of shows have kicked off with a seriously impressive display of summery designs.  From vibrant hues to pretty patterns it’s shaping up to be a spectacular season; here’s what I’m excited about…!
BYCHILL BLOG Paris fashion week trends, Chanel, Acne Studios, Valentino, Loewe, Dries Van noten

From left to right:  Prior to Chanel’s feminist finale, tweed suits had a a moment in the spotlight.  At Acne this teal wrap dress had a “just stepped out of the shower” feel, while Valentino’s tiered floral dresses left me contemplating trying more maxi-lengths for summer.  JW Anderson’s debut collection for Loewe was pieced together with colourful swatches and Dries Van Noten did what he does best with beautiful layering, timeless fabrics and effortless accessories.  Print by Garima Dhawan.

BYCHILL BLOG Paris fashion week trends, Giambattista Valli, Chloe, Celine, Stella McCartney and Sonia Rykiel

The blue embroidered set at Giambattista Valli was all kinds of beautiful, notice the subtle glimpses of skin?  Much more was on show at Chloé with light cotton dresses, the epitome of easy summer style.  At Celine this long woven dress was my pick, while at Stella McCartney I was taken by the printed layers and spaghetti straps.  Then this Sonia Rykiel denim jumpsuit, worn with stripes, had a cool parisian feel.  Print by Georgiana Paraschiv.

BYCHILL BLOG Paris fashion week trends, Louis Vuitton, Balmain, Miu Miu, Givenchy and Carven Paris

Louis Vuitton was packed with cool dresses, leather stripes, knee high boots and wicked bags.  Balmain’s striking primary coloured stripes and Miu Miu’s brocade prints were also pretty up there.  Sleek leather got laced up at Givenchy, then at Carven sporty separates like these bike shorts had me questioning whether I can attempt to wear mine IRL? Print by Georgiana Paraschiv.

BYCHILL BLOG Milan fashion week trends, Marni, Gucci, prada, Emilio Pucci, Fendi
Oriental dresses at Gucci exuded opulence, topped off with sexy metallic heels.  Prada’s patchwork dress and exposed seams felt raw and beautiful, while Marni’s floral-full show was a pretty ode to spring blooms and cool layering.  Leather mini dresses at Fendi made a bold statement in seventies shades of chocolate brown and orange.  This coordinating set at Emilio Pucci was my absolute favourite, again emphasising the coming season’s seventies feel.  Print by Alexander Henry.
BYCHILL BLOG Milan fashion week trends from Etro, Dolce and Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli, Fausto Puglisi, Missoni

Embroidered dresses at Etro made me want to dress like a free-spirted bohemian, while Dolce and Gabbana contrasted sheer camis with THE coolest embellished jeans.  Roberto Cavalli’s technicolor maxi dress combined water-colour prints and bright hues with a breathtaking result.  Optical prints rendered in monochrome were my pick at Fausto Puglisi and at Missoni this pink and orange layered look made for my kind of beach cover up.
BYCHILL London Fashion Week spring 2015, Roksanda, Topshop unique, Simone Rochas, Mother of pearl and House of Holland

Colours were bold at Roksanda, my favourite combo of course being pink and red.  At Topshop Unique I wanted every single look that went down the runway, most of all the superb red and blue looks.  The garden Party at Simone Rocha involved such divine sheer fabrics, embroidered with red flowers; while over at Mother of Pearl youthful parkas and sporty minis stole the show.  More is more was the message at House of Holland’s hippy show, where 3D florals and paisley embroidery went hand in hand.  Print by Garima Dhawan.
BYCHILL London Fashion Week spring 2015, Peter Pilotto, Giles, Burberry Prorsum, Jonathan Saunders and Christopher Kane

Peter Pilotto showed a psychedelic/tribal collection, complete with palm prints and neon embroidery.  At Giles my pick was this embellished shift, a pretty-tough mix.  Burberry’s sheer layering and cool accessories had me ohhing and ahhhing, plus more super-practical flats won over my practical side!  This blue top, complete with a girly bow, we my favourite piece at Jonathan Saunders; while Christopher Kane’s nautical references were more than enough to convince me I need to up my stripes and sailor tops for summer.  Print by Schatzi Brown.

BYCHILL New York Fashion Week spring 2015, Rodarte, Tommy Hillfiger, Vivienne tam and Marc jacobs navy

Thakoon’s textural pieces were fringed to perfection; while the Rodarte sisters tried texture of a different kind with iridescent webbed dresses.  At Tommy Hilfiger I singled out this shaggy star top as my favourite, a nod to the collection’s rockstar vibe.  Sweeter designs were on show at Vivienne Tam, with pretty-paradise embroidery.   Then came this super-chic, embellished loungewear situation at Marc Jacobs, all kinds of amazing!  Print by Sophie Brabbins.

BYCHILL New York Fashion Week spring 2015, Michael Kors Yellow Floral, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Anna Sui, Tory Burch and DKNY

Brilliant yellow blooms and feminine silhouettes at Michael Kors were a world away from the plastic punks at Marc by Marc Jacobs.  Over at Anna Sui an eclectic mix of florals, jewels and patchwork leather accessories appealed to my boho-side…  Also high on my wish-list, Tory Burch’s tribal getups and sweet accessories.  At DKNY embellished dresses layered over colourful knits made for an impressive combo, what better way to wear sparkly dresses by day.

BYCHILL New York Fashion Week spring 2015, 3 1 phillip lim, timo weiland, karen walker pastels

My favourite look at 3.1 Phillip Lim was without a doubt these sporty separates, made girly with sweet shades.   Timo Weiland pulled the pastel card, contrasting sophisticated silhouettes with hand-drawn prints.  The queen of preppy-cool, Karen Walker’s whole show made for my dream wardrobe situation.  At Reem Acra there was skin to see, but rendered in sweet, sheer fabric the revealing dresses came across more pretty than provocative…. and more pretty pastels from Milly!  Print by Leif.

BYCHILL New York Fashion Week spring 2015

Tanya Taylor’s collection was packed with playful-patterns and a bit of shoulder-show, while local label Dion Lee showed his bright side with this sunny display.  At Suno the right-stripe came in the form of this ankle skimming maxi dress, Rebecca Taylor on the other hand opted for office appropriate layering and found a solution for anyone wanting to wear a crop top at work.  Shoulders were also also show at Tibi with this fresh cotton set… hello Riviera getaway!BYCHILL New York Fashion Week spring 2015

Providing a masculine edge to 90’s crop tops, Creatures of the Wind’s proportion-play just made a beige parka appealing! Say what…?  At Richard Chai Love summer layering got a fresh revamp with shiny fabrics and jewel hues, while Tome played the failsafe navy card, could this dress get any chicer?  Altuzarra’s floral bodysuit may need to be worn with a skirt IRL, but none the less it gets my tick of approval for general prettiness. Next up, a more conservative look – This preppy tunic/shorts combo proves yet again that Alexander Wang knows a thing or two about sporty-cool.  Print by Saskia Pomeroy.

BYCHILL New York Fashion Week spring 2015

Printed maxi dresses at Honor evoked ideas of a middle-eastern escape, while Ostwald Helgason’s geometric patterns provided more of an urban-appeal.  At Peter Som a crisp cotton shirt-dress made for the chicest beach cover-up and Kate Spade’s Crab Bag the coolest picnic companion.  At Jill Stuart a 70’s shorts-set at was my pick of the bunch, while high shine pleats at Zimmermann had the asymmetric advantage.  Print by Thibalt Design.
