Label I Love: Miss Moncur (The Winter-Warmer Edition)

When it comes to winter in Sydney stocking up on loads of outerwear isn’t entirely necessary (or justifiable), so selective shopping is key.  It doesn’t stay truly cold for more than a couple of months and even then it’s usually OK to brave the chill in only a layer or two – gloves and scarves optional.

So as the mercury drops I’ve rounded up the only four wintery pieces you’ll need this season.  Of course if you live in a colder city you may need to add to this list.
The four pieces I’ve used are all from Sydney-based online store Miss Moncur.  They’re styles that are not only super affordable, they’re also conveniently classic – so will be on rotation year after year.

First of my winter essentials is a Printed Knit (see above).  Yes a plain knit is okkk, but if you really want to show off your sartorial know-how opt for a graphic pattern.  I tend to favour classic compositions like leopard print or checks for their timeless quality.  Easy to wear with jeans, or dress up with a sleek leather skirt.  If you don’t already own one of these all-rounders get shopping quick smart!

THE TEXTURED COCOON COAT
Miss Moncur Carolina Coat, worn with my own Acne Studios mens Shirt and Paige Jeans

This winter is all about texture and boxy silhouettes, so this coat is a no brainer!   The silhouette is particularly great because it disguises many bulky layers.  While tailored coats make wearing thick knits impossible, this coat skims over the shoulders leaving room for the chunkiest jumper.
My vote is to keep things streamline below to balance proportions; skinny pants are failsafe.

THE BIKER JACKET
Miss Moncur Apres Ski Jacket, worn with my own Antipodium Dress

When the weather calls for something lighter than a coat, yet warmer than a jumper, an effortless biker jacket is a must.  It’s essential you buy in a size that is fitted at the shoulders to avoid looking like you stepped out of a bad 80s film.  But there’s no need to stick to plain black, try cool textures like shearling or tweed.

THE ANIMAL PRINT COAT
Miss Moncur Moritz Coat, worn with my own Prada sweater and CO Dress

Yes, another coat is last on my Winter Must-buy list.  This one is a little outrageous,  yet still definitely a classic.
The Animal print coat can seem like a scary concept, but given its ability to work for day or night it is actually much more practical than it seems.  It does however require some expert styling to keep it from looking daggy.  Stay safe by wearing it with neutrals; for after-dark throw over an all-black ensemble for instant chic.  During the day I recommend toughening it up with denim or cool boots.  See… not as hard as it seems!
